Where it all began

ree

So where do I begin. Normally it's the beginning...

Haircuts&Uppercuts was started in my kitchen in lockdown. Whilst we were all sat at home waiting for Boris to give us the nightly update on deaths and infection numbers. I couldn't stand it anymore and needed to do something to keep me busy. Let's face it, it was not exactly the highlight of my life being unable to see my extended family and friends. I am so thankful I had and still have my amazing wife and girls.

I soon realised how lucky I was, when I had clients messaging me telling me how depressed they were. Some even told me they felt suicidal, and asked if we could. Accidentally on purpose bump into each other on a dog walk.  Now I can't admit if I did par take in these dog walks. But Frankie (my Yorkie) did enjoy lots of fresh air.

This realisation of actually being one of the lucky ones. Gave me the scratch that needed itching. I had something to dig my teeth into. Mental health has always been a passion of mine, being a barber people really do open up to us.

This is when I started doing my research into mental health training for hair professionals. The itch was being scratched having something to do really boosted my mood. It wasn't long until I realised there was no one offering a mental health first aid course or education for hair professionals. Then it hit me like lighting. I can put my savings into starting, my own brand and use the products profits to pay for mental health first aid training.

Like magic the concept was birthed. What followed was months of talking to manufacturers, that specialise in professional grade hair products. After weeks of calls and emails I finally found a UK based factory to make my products. But alas they only wanted a minimum order amount, that I couldn't afford. But I told them my mission to use my profits to support mental health via education. A bit of sweet talking later and they started my first batch
